That’d work out really well for him in Bushwick, Brooklyn....

Also, Insurance investigators look for just this type of behavior. People have done this maliciously with I tent to sue and claiming false Injuries. In other words, fraud.

Kinja'd!!!

Does he still think the only way to force a downshift in a car is to have a manual?

So not only is he a conning little fuck, but he lives like 30 years in the past?

There’s only one solution.

DON’T. TAILGATE.

You can also rig a switch so your brake lights don’t light... not that I recommend that since that would be the first thing I would look for if I were an insurance investigator.

Look, just because the parking around your football stadium sucks doesn’t mean it does everywhere.

WHEN YOUR FOOTBALL STADIUM IS SMACK-DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF URBAN SEATTLE, IT SUCKS.

Interestingly enough, another thing they look for in injury cases is a brake check. People get hit and file false claims....

Rig a switch? Around here, they just drive around with burned out brake lights for years.

I never understood brake-checking a tailgater. At best you piss them off, at worst you get rear ended. Why would you try to get rear-ended?

Funny story: a few years ago I was in NJ coming back home from the mall in my miata. I was in the right lane about to exit a route to the NJ Turnpike, and this maxima just starts tailgating me...like inches away from my bumper. I didn’t brake check him, instead, I downshifted and sped up in my lane that exits to the right hander cloverleaf. He matched my speed (easy when his car makes 3X the power as mine) still pressed on my bumper. It’s an exit I know pretty well, which has a decreasing radius right hander.. It’s almost 2 right handers where the 2nd is probably 50% tighter than the first. You could even see see where people understeered and hit the barrier to the left..

I enter the turn, maintain my speed, and the miata just settles and takes the turn like a champ without so much as a tire squeal. When I looked in my rear view after I’m almost through the turn, I saw the most amazing thing. Seemingly in slow motion, the maxima understeered, oversteered, bounced, leaned, rebounded all at the same time.... with white smoke puffing with each pulse of ABS, while the car was gyrating like an angry hermit crab. He SLAMS into the outside barrier and slides along it.

I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe. That’s what you get!

You’re asking for an accident if you brake check someone. We’ve already determined that they’re following at an unsafe distance, why take a chance?

Just lift.

Listen, if you’re going to follow me at a distance that’s only safe for 10-15mph, then that’s what I’ll have to do to protect both of us.
